An exension and rennovation of a victorian terrace house in London. The brief was to extend the existing property on the ground floor to provide the following: extended living area with a new WC and dedicated utility space. The existing kitchen and dining spaces were also to be fully refurbished. To achieve proposals the design utilised the underused side return.
The large glazed areas on the North facade are designed to maximise natural daylight into the heart of the building, together with a large rooflight on the South East area of the new flat roof. The external material finish of the extension matches the London stock brickwork of the existing house.
The proposed garden side glazing system to the extension will not be visible to the public and will not cause any greater overlooking or effect the public appearance to the house. The flat roof finish to the proposed new extension also minimises its visual impact with its neighbour. All materials were chosen to improve the overall appearance and be contextually sympathetic.
By keeping all the proposals to the same scale and massing of the existing we have avoided any over looking and over shadowing to the neighbouring properties. Managing the historic environment The property is within a Conservation Area. By retaining many of the existing and original external features and elements that contribute to the properties qualities, the extension efficiently integrates with the main house to minimise its impact and footprint.
